Run for ALD, Inc. was originally founded by John J. Kane, Esquire, the former managing partner of the Philadelphia maritime and labor law firm of Freedman and Lorry, P.C, after he was diagnosed with the disease in 2001. Despite Jack’s death from ALD in 2003, Run for ALD has continued through the efforts of family and friends. Jack’s daughter, Taylor, who was only five years old at the time of his death, has been a tireless advocate in continuing her father’s effort to raise awareness of ALD. (Click here to join “Taylor’s Team” of junior volunteers.) 100% of the proceeds of our fundraisers are dedicated to finding a cure for ALD.
To date we have donated more than $165,000 to the Kennedy Krieger Institute, a non-profit hospital whose doctors and scientists are leaders in the effort to prevent, treat and cure ALD and other neurogenetic diseases. This money has been used to fund research into genetic testing and has helped contribute to the development of a breakthrough method of screening newborns for the ALD gene ~ a test which could ultimately save thousands of lives every year. Run for ALD is a member of the ALD-AMN Global Alliance.
This year -2014- instead of a 5K run, we are hosting a bowling fundraiser “Bowl for ALD.” The event will include 2 1/2 hours of bowling, rental shoes, pizza, soda, a DJ, Chinese Auction, and lots of fun for the entire family! The current members of our Board of Directors of Run for ALD, Inc. are:
Diane S. Kane, Esquire
David A. Schernecke
Elaine D. LeCates, CPA
Paul A. Snyder, Esquire
